COLLECTORS NOTES:
The title page of this BLB describes the book as being an adaptation of the Max Fleischer-Paramount Studios Talkartoon. In actuality, the animated cartoon and the BLB tell two very different stories.
The cartoon was released on March 31, 1933. It begins at the royal palace where the Queen's mirror names Betty as "the fairest in the land." The queen orders Betty's execution.
The story line in this BLB is surreal. Betty iis born in the castle of the Queen. As Betty grows up, she beomes more beautiful, and the jealous Queen tries to dispose of her. When Betty escapes, the story intermingles aspects from several fairy tale classicsRumplestiltskin, Musiciand of Bremen, and Pinocchio.
