COLLECTOR’S NOTES:

About the time this BLB was published, Buck Jones became the hero of a syndicated radio program titled Hoofbeats. The program, sponsored by Grape Nuts Flakes, was a 15-minute, five-days-per-week action Western serial designed for a young audience.

Although the program ran for only 59 episodes, its format influenced the formats of several other juvenile programs that soon followed. Each episode began with a distinctive opening—"The Old Wrangler" narrated the story line and informally talked to his "little pards" about the adventures of Buck and his horse, Silver, and, of course, about the premiums that promoted the sponsor's product. All listeners had to do was send in those Grape Nuts Flakes boxtops.
