COLLECTOR’S NOTES:

The Green Hornet was first heard over radio station WXYZ in Detroit on January 31, 1936. It came to an end on December 5, 1952.  Not many people realize that the Green Hornet and the Lone Ranger are related. Followers of the Lone Ranger know that he had a nephew named Dan Reid. Followers of the Green Hornet know that Britt Reid, the Green Hornet, was Dan Reid's son. Although Britt fought crime in the manner of his famous great uncle, the time and place was quite different.

Both the Lone Ranger and the Green Hornet were the imaginative creations of George W. Trendle, and in their early years, both were written by Fran Striker. The Lone Ranger was such a success when it went on the air in 1933, that Trendle felt it served as a good model for a more up-to-date- crime fighter. It is because of Trendle that the two radio shows had more than a passing similarity.
